I’m going to let you in on a secret.
As humans, we don’t know what the outcome to our actions will be. And more than anything, we live in fear of the consequences of our actions. The unknown is terrifying.
I wake up and a voice in my head says to me:
“Scott, today you are going to fail.”
“Scott, they aren’t going to like you. You’ve failed too much to ever help their business.”
“Scott, you’re not going to be able to pay your team. You have expenses that you can never take care of. Remember what it was like to lose everything?”
I’ve been battling this reality for a while. It’s a reality where inaction is a bigger action than action itself. It’s crippling. It ensures that I think, re-think, engage, and just before pushing the big, red button, back down.
But you know what? The majority of society is scared shitless… or at least we were at one point. Then we make ourselves comfortable. We get a job we know we can do so we can make money to provide the comforts of life.
Essentially, we trade our “OMG, I’m f—ing scared as hell” in for “I’m not going to achieve my potential but at least I’m comfortable.”
Screw that, man. Screw it. I would rather wake up each morning not knowing what the day is going to bring, than live a life, turn 85, die and leave only this legacy: “He was a nice guy with a nice family.”
I know you want more. I know you can do more. And I know what’s stopping you is that this so-called security and comfort.
How do you achieve your wildest dreams and not be scared shitless at the same time? You don’t. When you are uncomfortable and scared, you are typically going in the right direction.
But that feeling also makes us freeze. We stop because it is scary. But hear this: you don’t have to go out on a limb every single day, but you do need to pursue those dreams and goals that make you feel alive. There is more that you can accomplish and the only thing stopping you is fear.
The fear of being scared.
Of being uncomfortable.
Of looking stupid.
Of making mistakes.
Of ruining your reputation.
Of losing your security.
But every single one of those fears don’t actually exist; rather, we create those fears in our minds. Imagine what you can do when you no longer care about those made up fears and instead focus on what you can accomplish.
So go ahead. What are you waiting for?
